Through skilled facilitation, activities can provide an engaging pathway for mokopuna to connect with the ideas of your project. They can be utilized to raise or contain the energy of a group. Choose activities that fit with the age, background and needs of mokopuna in your group.
A survey is a way to get the views of many mokopuna on a specific topic. Survey questions limit the type and amount of information mokopuna can provide and different mokopuna might need different support to complete a survey (i.e. access to internet, accessibility or language considerations).
Focus groups run by a skilled facilitator can allow for group discussion around a topic which can provide rich and nuanced information. Focus groups can prioritise hearing the views of specific groups, although require considered planning and facilitation.
Tours allow mokopuna, including very young mokopuna, to show you what is important or what gets in the way in their space. They are useful for specific purposes such as gathering information around their environment and how they live in it.
Artistic methods, such as drawing, dance, music, or photography, provide a creative way for mokopuna to express themselves. The variety of these methods can be matched with the age and abilities of your participants.
Interviews are usually one-on-one with mokopuna and a skilled facilitator. They allow for deep rather than broad information gathering.
